Mountainsmith Genesee 4 Person 3 Season Tent (Lotus Blue) Reviews
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful a great tent at an amazing price, October 3, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mountainsmith Genesee 4 Person 3 Season Tent (Apparel) I purchased this tent with some trepidation, as there are few review on amazon and very little information in general on the web. The little I did find convinced me of the following benefits:
1. quick to put up - this has proven to be the case. The color-coded poles and straps make the initial layout easy. It takes me 5 minutes to put this up including fly and guyouts.
2. not too heavy - about 6 lbs the way I have it packed. I mostly will be using this for car camping and canoe camping, so weight is not really critical, but size is. This tent packs very easily into the provided sack.
3. good ventilation - yes, yes, and more yes. The top vents are a great idea in theory. Not sure how well they perform when dealing with a lot of condensation. The doors are brilliant. Great zipper pulls, full D-shaped door, zip down window for extra ventilation. It is really great to orient the tent with the vestibules on the axis of the wind. Open each vestibule, and the windows and... Read more
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful MountainSmith Genesee 3 season 4 person Tent, November 10, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mountainsmith Genesee 4 Person 3 Season Tent (Sports) We purchased the Mountainsmith Genesee 4 Tent on the 8th of October 2011, because we were going camping the first week in November. We were looking for a smaller tent, but larger than our two person backpack tent, to take camping on our second camp out actually in a park. There is a lot of room in it, I mean a lot compare to our two person tent. Three people could easy fit in, four is a maybe depending on size of each person.
The first night was very windy and a steady rain, temp in middle upper 30's. Didn't use any sealer on the tent. Two small leaks (none got on floor of the tent, just the inside of the fly) around the air vent on the fly. The actual tent itself didn't leak any, just the fly.
Second day very windy but no rain. The tent perform very well in the wind and rain.
All in all we very happy with it as there is more room than a two person tent. A little heavy for a long backpack trip, but for a park that has hike in tent sites it will be... Read more
4 of 6 people found the following review helpful Outstanding value, great lightweight 4 person tent, June 23, 2011 By Patrick Mason (Colorado) - See all my reviews This review is from: Mountainsmith Genesee 4 Person 3 Season Tent (Apparel) I got this tent for my birthday, and must say that I love it. I am surprised this has not been reviewed anywhere else that I can see. Took it for a 3 night camping trip near Salida, CO. This area is known for its gusty wind. The tent performed admirably, and we had plenty of space (2 adults and a dog kennel). There would have been comfy space for 3 as well, or 4 as rated for backpackers.
The gear loft is included, which is a plus. I am a big fan of the doors, which zip open to mesh screens for ventilation, along with the pop open vents in the rain fly. Very easy to set up, the color coding of corners is a nice touch.
I found this tent after lusting for the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL4 - but that is far too spendy and this has similar performance. The vestibules on this tent are less usable, but that is a small sacrifice for 1/4 the price.
As with any lightweight tent, the floor is *thin*, and I recommend a ground sheet, which is not included... Read more
